The Police Contact: How to Handle and Survive

Sunday evening (May 28, 2006) , a newly graduated Airman, Patrick Thompson, was arrested and jailed for "unlawfully carrying a concealed weapon". Airman Thompson sat in a jail cell on Memorial Day, instead of eating BBQ with his family before departing to his first duty station.
Sunday, Thompson, some fellow Air Force graduates, and Thompson's kid brother went to Wal-Mart. There they purchased a variety of Air-Soft toy guns. They returned to Thompson's parent's home for a final boyhood game of "army" or "cops and robbers". Soon, a "concerned neighbor" called police to report "people with guns".
Police swarmed through the neighborhood. Airman Thompson was found behind a garage where he'd been hiding from his fellow players. He was carrying a clear-plastic M-4 toy rifle and a clear-plastic M-9 pistol. Both toys were equipped with federally mandated orange muzzles.
Thompson was arrested and jailed. A spokesman for the Des Moines PD stated, "We take all such calls very seriously because we never know what we're going to run into." The spokesman also stated that the airman was jailed "...because we make no exceptions in cases involving weapons".
In Iowa, Air-Soft toys may be purchased by anyone over sixteen years of age. It takes very creative reasoning to classify them as a "firearm" under the Iowa Code. Only the blind would be unable to discern the toys used by these boys from real firearms.
The "zero-tolerance police" of Des Moines recently made headlines when one of their undercover officers drove his unmarked police car, through a construction zone, at speeds over 100mph, while under the influence of alcohol. The officer was stopped by members of the West Des Moines PD. He was released to his sergeant without formal charges being filed.
Until every Iowan is armed, there is no "equal protection". The police are uniformly armed. We are not. If you're going to arm one group of idiots, you must arm them all. It's only fair.
Is it paranoia? A chronicle of abuse at the hands of the police state and militarized law enforcement.
